Being already in our summer tour, this choreography will go through several european cities and in all of them it’ll make the same question: how far are we willing to go, to give, to be, to belong to, to fall, to let go…how far? An uncommon question which also generates more mysteries than answers. A question that reveals the limits between two bodies and the different ways of running through them.

In Hungary we will have, this summer, another chance to enjoy this amazing composition.

BARRO is a living material in which several artistic disciplines converge. The pictorial work of several artists who, during the 80′s decade roused the standards of art, is the starting point of this event. We conceive this project as a tribute to the effervescent creative processes in which the creator engages his whole being, gets into the mud, with his will to find meaning, shape, light, understanding, consciousness.

Dance sets up the territory where contact develops among a vocal forest led by playwright Antonio Ramírez-Stabivo, who will guide -in a meticulous work of voice and interpretation- the participants of this forest. On this landscape different artistic movements are taken place: live drawing by Marcus Carus, music by Idan Shimoni and Luis Miguel Cobo, and Ofer Smilansky video art. And there, boundaries vanish with complicity, bodies fell the distance that separates them from the mud and silhouettes flirt with their mortality.

BARRO, malleable, brief, ready for emerging, ready for constant transformation.

Next 22nd of June you can enjoy BARRO in a double program, at 10:30pm and at 11.30pm.

We’ll do it with 70 volunteers with whom we’ll be working in a three-day workshop, from 25th to 27th of April. Playing Free Fall on such an important day for us, along with all those volunteers, is a tribute to our personal way of understanding dance, that always finds bonds between the people and their surroundings.

From 9th to 12th of April, the company will do a workshop with 21 volunteers that -throughout contact language- proposes the search of confidence in the other. The goal is to investigate the relationships of the human being with himself and with his environment, both in the social dynamics of Free Fall and the powerful duet of Hasta dónde…?

On that occasion it’ll take place on the banks of one of the longest rivers in Europe, the Sava, which runs through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. We suspect that this river, crossing the city of Zagreb, will be a source of inspiration to take a new leap into a new Rizoma composition.

We re-activate this blog, on which we’ll be writing on the impressions on our experiences, by the hand of Antonio Ramírez-Stabivo, co-creator along with Sharon Fridman of this beautiful project.

Opening this festival means a lot to us, Valencia has been and always be like being at home. It’ll certainly be a very special event.

During this time, we have created together, more than fifty human beings, a sort of cartography made of routes, paths through the valley, and the valley has taught us to read the movement of the bodies and the relationships between them at their crests and cavities.
Our desire now is to make this knowledge grow exponentially, to get ready for our meeting with the audience so that these fifty bodies become five hundred; five hundred people inhabiting an instant, deciphering together a valley, composing the map of a community which gathers in the twilight to learn to self-contemplate.

Stick after stick … with the intention directed toward this final form: a warm vacuum waiting to be inhabited, a place on Earth to house the miracle of birth.

NIDO is underway, the company and the 50 walkers are already “rizoming” together, and in just one week it will be ready to move in. But now it is still weak and vulnerable to the forces of nature, a blow would be enough to endanger, so we must strengthen: fascinating the living space between bodies, exploding the voice of the forgotten organs, quizzing the moss, the sand, the valleys, the clouds and the wind, what time is it? It’s time to surrender… the time is now.

Nido, this is the name we have given to our new Rizoma on the island of Terschelling, The Netherlands. A rhizomatic nest where artists and spectators will live, both human nature. A little nest in the immensity of the Earth, attentive to the synchronicity with the powers of nature.

It is the first time that Rizoma takes place on a valley, far away from the neurotic pavements and the schizophrenic cities. We return to the beginning, to the grass, to the earth, the birds, the forgotten skins and the honest bodies. Listen, to how the water leaves the backwater behind for its plunge into the cascade.

RIZOMA is the most compromised company project when it comes to the expansion of dance and its implication with society.

This composition explores the phenomenon of birth from a global perspective, turning the/our attention towards the essential processes given in nature, listening to our most immediate place in it, without any pretension of control or domination, using natural tools at its core: bodies, voice, wind, sunlight…

‘Rizoma’ has been performed before in big cities, small towns, under monuments, next to mausoleums… Now on Terschelling the piece will be danced in raw nature for the first time, we face then a world premiere, with a new choreography, new artistic approaches, new messages. You already know: ‘Rizoma’ is constantly growing, is a mutable piece, alive.

The secluded valley of Arjens’ Dune will be the meeting place where performers, audience and artists come together. Together they will form a single unit, using their voices, their bodies, the sunlight, the wind, the surroundings and their personal nuances. No better place for that than the beautiful island of Terschelling.

It is a long cherished desire of artistic festival director Kees Lesuis to present this special production on Oerol. “NIDO/Rizoma 2016 is a breath taking tribute to the dune landscape of Terschelling at sunrise. And now? Several proposals make their way into our calendar marking the direction to follow this season. Maxims are: Research, Openness, Collaboration, Experimentation, Tour and Emotion.

In 2015-2016 we will be at the forefront in the artistic direction of two new festivals, “Gvanim” in Tel Aviv and “Danzamos, Conde Duque Danza” in Madrid (CC Conde Duque). Free fall will traverse the Spanish geography, from North to South, going through Gijon, Tàrrega, Medina del Campo, Albacete, Bilbao, Tenerife, etc. Rizoma returns to his roots, purified, sublimated … Oerol Fest 2016 will witness this evolution. And a new creation in collaboration with the Conservatory of Dance Maria de Avila, enters the stove – premiere: april 2016 -.

We are ready, prepared and willing;) Welcome 2015-2016!!!

Three presentations in three historical places that were in need of Rizoma.
It was a singular process: fist time that only women are dancing and fist time that we have a masculine chorus singing.

It was a Rizoma that penetrated in the memory of the people, in the dramatic stories from the war… touching, affecting, healing, cathartic..

We want to say thank you to everyone that had made Rizoma a reality in this city: dancers, singers, chorusmasters, festival staff, etc. Everyone that have turned the difficulty into a lever for the development.

We are just thinking about Rizoma 2016, that will inhabit the dutch island of Terschelling, another challenge, another oportunity…

Two years ago, we had the opportunity to receive this distinction for the show “Al menos dos caras”. This opportunity leads to the start of a tour through places such as Singapore, France, Finland and Germany. Now, with Caída Libre, we have travelled through various countries and shared a creative journey with dancers from different nationalities, and still have more upcoming events, such as the Romaeuropa festival, the Mercat de les Flors and the Teatros del Canal, along with other experiences to be generated, promoting our survival through movement, falling and the limits of verticality.

Caida Libre*, the last project of Compañía Sharon Fridman, needs you to free fall.

We want you to participate in the special version of our last work, Caída libre*, in an amazing island of Netherlands called Terschelling.

Oeral-Festival has given us the chance to present “Caída libre” nine times in the nature, in the open air, out of the habitual theatres, with the wind sharing our free fall, with the sunlight penetrating our skin.

We need you to form part of the human landscape of Caída libre, so we propose you the possibility of work with us, Compañía Sharon Fridman, during an intensive and enriching process.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a free workshop with the company (dancers, choreographer, dramaturgist) in which we share our knowledge about dance, contact, scenic presence, dance dramaturgy, body consciousness, and other aspects connect with the contents of Caida libre. This process is linked with each show, trying to grow up, to get more consciousness each time we present Caída libre.

This project explores an essential feature of our nature: survival. Contact is the key of our language, and we believe that the natural movement is the prime matter of the choreography.

In this work, each performer, each person, research the relation with the others, the incoherences and contradictions, the difficulties at the time to transmit the own necessity inside a group… definitely search the sense of freedom inside a knot.  

We need to add twenty people more to our team of six dancers, the whole group will transform our piece giving more live, more sense…

The workshop will be from 9th to 22th of June, starting to show the 13th of June.
